셀모임, 오이코스, 구역에배, 성경공부모임, 목장, 등등 다양한 명칭의 소그룹 모임에 참여했는데,
대학시절 모임에서는 개인의 얘기든 기도제목이든 나눌 때, transparency 가 중요하다고 배웠었다.
아니면 서로 가면을 쓴 상태에서 피상적인 얘기만을 나눌 뿐이고 진정한 변화가 일어나지 않는다는 그런 요지.
그래서 대학생 시절 다니던 교회 두 군데 소그룹 내에서 솔직하지 못한 이들이 있다면,
30 -40 대 리더분들의 집중 케어를 받거나 성경적 "rebuke" 을 받는 경우도 있었다.
그런데.....
transparency 에 중점을 맞출 경우 God centered 이지 못하고 problem-centered 나눔으로 끌날 수 있거나,
self-absorbedness or self-centeredness 을 초래하지 않을까 하는 염려는 있다.
또한 성숙하지 못한 그룹에서는 confidentiality 가 지켜지지 않고 진정한 중보기도가 있기전에
gossip 이 되어버릴 가능성이 크다.
그런 생각의 흐름 속에 검색을 해 보다가, transparency 에 구별되는 integrity 라는 덕목이 있다는 걸 발견.

“Transparency” says we’re all supposed to pull out our sins for others to examine. If you don’t think you have any, you need to dig deeper, because of course you know your heart is a deep dark well of sin (even your heart that has been redeemed and made new by the shed blood and resurrection power of Christ). So it’s important to keep digging until you find it, because basically we’re all sinning every moment of every day in thought, word, and deed. As CJ Mahaney said (discussed in detail here), he wanted to live “close to the doctrine of sin.” The focus of transparency is on sin.
“Integrity,” on the other hand, focuses more on our new life in Jesus Christ. It says that it’s possible to live as the same person at all times. This doesn’t mean you won’t sin. It doesn’t mean there won’t be times you need to confess and repent. But it assumes that if you’re truly born again and made new, you love Jesus and want to follow Him with your whole heart, your whole self.
위 글 결론부분처럼 transparency 만으로는 integrity 에 이르지 못하지만, transparency 가 integrity 에 이르는 첫 스텝 중 하나이기도 하다.
It is important that we are people of integrity. One of the first steps toward getting there is transparency, that we are real with ourselves and others about our shortcomings. For integrity to grow from there it is going to take more than a complacent acknowledgment of problems. We have to let that knowledge and experience refine our lives into a more holy existence. That can only be done in partnership with God and a community of faith.
