Heroes vs superstars

Henry Kissinger 가 Churchill (Norman Rose) 이라는 책에 대한 리뷰 중에서 heroes (영웅) 과 superstars (슈퍼스타)를 비교한 내용이란다.  

Our age finds it difficult to come to grips with figures like Winston Churchill. The political leaders with whom we are familiar generally aspire to be superstars rather than heroes. The distinction is crucial. Superstars strive for approbation, heroes walk alone. Superstars crave consensus, heroes define themselves by the judgmet of a future they see it as their task of bring about. Superstars seek success in a technique for eliciting support, heroes pursue success as the outgrowth of inner values.

The NIV Application Commentary - Hebrew by George. H. Guthrie 이 인용한 글인데, George H Guthrie 는 교회에서도 superstar 와 trues heroes 가 너무나도 쉽게 혼동된다고 쓴다. 

일부 기독교계에서는  superstar 들을 만들려고 애쓰는듯 거처럼 보이기도 한다. 

며칠 전 Christianity Today  머릿기사를 읽고 경악했다. 이미 작년부터 알려진 이야기지만 구체적으로  기술된건 읽어보니, 그건 한번의 실수나 죄가 아닌 사기꾼 행각에 가까워보였다. 

Reddit 에는 회개없이 세상을 떠난  그사람이 과연 구원받았을까 하는 질문 또 그가 지금 지옥불에 있을 거라는 댓글들이 있다.  그에 대한 답은 모르겠지만 그의 악한 행위들은  전 세계에 고스란히 다 드러났다. 

난 그 사람의 강의를 들은 적도 비교적 많지 않고 책도 읽지 않았다 - '악의 영'을 느껴서가 절대 아니라 다른 사람들 책 읽느라고 바빠서.

그래도 기독교의 대표적 강연자의 한 명으로 꼽힌 그의 내막을 알고 보니 충격이 꽤 크다. 

이제는 유툽 강사 말이 지나치게 청산유수일수록  사기꾼같다는 생각이 절로 든다.  (한국 무슨 방송에서 생긴 일도 있었고 해서)  

조회수/구독수 높이려고 애쓰는거처럼 보이거나, 말만 번지르르하게 느껴지거나, 저게 진짜일까 의문이 들 정도로 개인간증이 매번 바뀌는 일부 신앙사역자들의 유튜브가 추천될  때는 not interested 를 누른다.  앨고리듬 훈련시키기 위해서. 

유명한 사역자들의 불미스런 일들이 반복되니, 알곡과 가라지를 분별할 수 있는 눈을 더 간절하게 구하게 된다.  

무대 위에서 화려한 조명을 받으며 으쓱대는 위선적인 이들보다는  매일매일의 삶, 보이지 않는 곳에서 하나님께 충성하는  (그런 순종을 자랑하기는 커녕  오히려 숨기는) unsung hero 들이 훨씬 많다고 믿고 싶다.

하나님께서는 다 알고 계신다. 

히브리서 4:12-13  For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attidues of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare befor the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
