Your goodness is running after me.

 

재작년인가부터 자주 듣는 찬양. 작년이었나?  힘든 일이 있었을 때, 내게 Goodness of God 를 remind 시켜 준 찬양이었다.
훗날 내 장례식에 틀면 좋겠다는 생각을 잠시 했으나, 그 생각을 누구와도 나누지는 않았다. 
20 대 대학시절, 보스턴의 Mountain Auburn Cemetery 에 가서 묘비들을 보면서 나의 죽음에 대해서 생각해 봤다는 얘길 교회 사람들과 나눈 적이 있었다. 그런데 그 당시에는 나랑 전혀 상관없었던 아이아빠가 보기에 그런 내가 특이했다고 나중에 나눈 적이 있다. morbid 하다고 생각했을까? 하기야 한국 공동묘지를 떠올리면 공동묘지에 가서 죽음을 생각하는 여학생이 특이하게 보이긴 헀겠지.   mountain auburn cemetery 는 일반 공동묘지와 다른 아름다운 공원 이다.  하여튼 그 후로 그 비슷한 얘기는 잘 안 하려 했다. 나이가 들어가면서 차차 더 그런 이야기를 할 시간이 더 많아지겠지.  팀켈러 목사님이 돌아가신 후, 아이아빠도 자기 장례식에서 어떤 노래가 불러졌으면 좋겠다는 얘기를 하기도 헀다. 진짜 그 노래? 할 만한 노래다. 농담이겠지.

삶을 살아가면서 우리가 하나님을 따르고 구하고 하나님 앞에 cry out 하는 인간의 입장에 촛점을 두는 때가 많다. 
 하나님께서 이 찬양을 통해서 "그게 아니야!!!  I AM running after you!" 하시는듯 했다.
 성경전체가 우리를 향한 하나님(예수님) 의 goodness 에 관한 것이긴 하다. 인간의 몸을 입으시고 이 땅에 오신 예수님의 사랑, 또 십자가와 부활의 사랑은 정말 어마어마한 것이다. 
 
 
그래도 굳이 이 구절이 나오는 성경이 어딜까 찾아보려고, "bible verse" 와 "God's goodness is running after me," 를 키워드로 검색해 보니 Psalm 23:6 가 뜬다.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.(NIV)

Goodness (tov) and unfailing love (chesed) are said to "pursue me" (yirdefuni) all the days of my life. The verb used here, 

 (radaf), means to run after, to track (as a hunter might track his prey), to pursue and take captive, suggesting that the Good Shepherd is relentless in His care and love for His sheep. God will haunt His followers with the truth of His goodness and unfailing love all the days of their lives.
 

원어를 볼 때 Run after, track, pursue and take captive, haunt, 그렇게도 번역될 수 있나보다.
 
 
올해 코스타 주제가 "Followers" 라고 들었다. 나는 코스타에 참석도 안 할 거지만 아마도 나중에 메시지들을 들을 수는 있겠지.
내가 뭐라 할 입장이 전혀 아니지만, 그래도 감히 중보기도를 하자면, 코스타 참석자& 관련자& 봉사자 모두를 포함해서 많은 이들에게, 우리를 집요하게 follow 하시고 run after 하시는 God's Goodness 의 은혜가 흘러 넘치길 기도한다.
