최근 뉴스피드에 뜬 기사들
(1) 엘리자베스 홈ㅅ (Theranos) 에 대한 재판이 진행 중. 한 때 촉망받던 벤처기업가로 인정받았으나, 회사설립 15 년만에 사기인 것이 드러난 사건. TV, 유튜브, 신문기사들을 보면 이 인물이 어떻게 자신을 그럴 듯 하게 포장해서 사기를 저질렀나, 이 인물의 어린시절, 가정환경 등까지 분석하기도 한다.
(2) 최근 재판을 했었던 (혹은 진행 중인) 종교계 몇몇 인물들이나 교회들에 대한 기사들.
(3) 한 종교계에서 과거 성범죄를 저지른 성직자 리스트를 공개했다는 기사.
(4) 수많은 팬을 거느렸던 연예인들이나 심지어는 누구보다도 더 법을 잘 지켜야 하는 이들이 저지른 끔찍한 일들과 거짓말들.
무시무시한 세상이다.
몇 년 전 (1) 의 벤처기업가가 하는 TED 강의를 들으며, 저 기술을 어떻게 저렇게 빨리 실현시켰을까 의문을 가지긴 했었다. 그래도 실리콘 밸리의 천재가 하는 일이고 어마어마한 이들이 자본을 댈 정도니 가능했겠지 했었는데, 그게 다 사기였다니... 워낙 극적인 사기극이기에 앞으로 영화로까지 만들어질 거란다.
(2), (3), (4) 와 같은 일들을 어제 오늘 일은 아니지만 그들로 인해서 엄청난 상처와 피해를 입은 이들이 떠올라서 안타깝다. 하루라도 빨리 옳고 그름이 판단되어야 더 이상 피해입는 이들이 안 생길 텐데....

세상 어느 곳이나 어느 영역에서나 알곡과 가라지는 섞여있고, 그것들을 가려내는 작업은 시급하다.
그런데....
마태복음 13:24-30 에서 예수님께서는 추수 때까지 기다리라고 하신다.
추수때가 되어서 알곡과 가라지가 다 자라면 그것을 구분하는게 더 쉽다는 예수님 말씀.
지금은 아직 예수님이 말씀하시는 추수때가 아닌 것일까?
일부 종교계에서는 알곡과 가라지를 가려내는 기준이 좀 더 모호한 듯 해보인다. 혹은 왜곡된 기준이 적용된다. 그럴 듯 해 보이는 외양이 알곡으로 보여서 수많은 사람들을 현혹한다. 또 외양이나 결과물이 그럴 듯 해 보이면 다른 것이 다 용서되기도 하는 시대이기도 하다.
이러한 시대에 하나님을 진정으로 믿고 구하고 따르는 이들의 모습은 어떤 것인가? 하나님께서 보시는 알곡과 가라지의 기준은 무엇인가 질문하고 스스로를 돌아본다.
하나님께서는 하루라도 빨리 세상의 잘못된 것들을 솎아내시면 좋겠다.. 예수님이 재림하실 때나 가능할까?
오늘 Encounter with God 본문이었던 Jer 12:1-17 의 예레미야도 똑같은 고민을 한다. 예레미야는 하나님 앞에서 불평을 늘어놓고 투정하는데, 하나님께서 대답하신다. (직접 하나님의 답을 들었던 예레미야는 그게 얼마나 특별한 것인지 알았을까?)
하나님께서 예수님의 비유에서처럼 "포도원, 밭, 황무지, 밀 (wheat), 뿌리채 뽑는다, harvest (소출)" 등 농업적 표현들을 쓰셨네.
그런데 마태복음 13:24-30 과 예레미야 12:1-17 을 함께 읽다 보니, 전에는 간과했던 점 몇가지를 새로이 보게된다.
(1) 예수님의 비유에서 잡초를 미리 뽑지 않는 이유는, 잡초를 뽑으며 어린 밀까지 함께 뽑지 않기 위해서다. 즉 잡초를 안 뽑는 이유는 어린 밀을 보호하기 위해서다.
(2) 이스라엘 백성을 연단하기 위해서 이방나라들을 쓰시고, 그 후 이방나라 또한 벌하시지만 이방인들에게도 하나님을 따를 수 있는 기회를 주시겠다고 하신다. (예레미야서 12:14-17). 하나님을 거역한 이스라엘 백성처럼 알곡 (밀)또한 가라지처럼 될 수 있고, 또 가라지도 하나님을 믿고 따르면 알곡이 될 수 있다는 것.
하나님께서 성미 급한 인간들이 바라는 거처럼 빨리빨리 action 을 취하지 아니하시는건, 하나님의 사람들을 보호하기 위해서일 수도 있고, 또한 가라지들에게도 기회를 주시기 위해서일 수도 있다는 것. 혹은 심판의 날 이후 -- 벌 준 후에도 (연단하신 후에도) 기회를 주신다는 것.
예레미야에 말씀되어진 심판은 무시무시하고 추수의 날에 가라지는 가려져 불태워질테지만,
하나님의 온 인류를 향한 compassion 은 어마어마하다...
그 하나님의 사랑을 믿고 의지하고 또 기도해야 하나보다. 정죄의 기도가 아닌, 그의 compassion 을 담은 기도를...

24 He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, 25 but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds[a] among the wheat and went away.26 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also.27 And the servants[b] of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, “Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”
Jeremiah’s Complaint
12 You are always righteous, Lord,
when I bring a case before you.
Yet I would speak with you about your justice:
Why does the way of the wicked prosper?
Why do all the faithless live at ease?
2 You have planted them, and they have taken root;
they grow and bear fruit.
You are always on their lips
but far from their hearts.
3 Yet you know me, Lord;
you see me and test my thoughts about you.
Drag them off like sheep to be butchered!
Set them apart for the day of slaughter!
4 How long will the land lie parched
and the grass in every field be withered?
Because those who live in it are wicked,
the animals and birds have perished.
Moreover, the people are saying,
“He will not see what happens to us.”
God’s Answer
5 “If you have raced with men on foot
and they have worn you out,
how can you compete with horses?
If you stumble in safe country,
how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?
6 Your relatives, members of your own family—
even they have betrayed you;
they have raised a loud cry against you.
Do not trust them,
though they speak well of you.
7 “I will forsake my house,
abandon my inheritance;
I will give the one I love
into the hands of her enemies.
8 My inheritance has become to me
like a lion in the forest.
She roars at me;
therefore I hate her.
9 Has not my inheritance become to me
like a speckled bird of prey
that other birds of prey surround and attack?
Go and gather all the wild beasts;
bring them to devour.
10 Many shepherds will ruin my vineyard
and trample down my field;
they will turn my pleasant field
into a desolate wasteland.
11 It will be made a wasteland,
parched and desolate before me;
the whole land will be laid waste
because there is no one who cares.
12 Over all the barren heights in the desert
destroyers will swarm,
for the sword of the Lord will devour
from one end of the land to the other;
no one will be safe.
13 They will sow wheat but reap thorns;
they will wear themselves out but gain nothing.
They will bear the shame of their harvest
because of the Lord’s fierce anger.”
14 This is what the Lord says: “As for all my wicked neighbors who seize the inheritance I gave my people Israel, I will uproot them from their lands and I will uproot the people of Judah from among them. 15 But after I uproot them, I will again have compassion and will bring each of them back to their own inheritance and their own country. 16 And if they learn well the ways of my people and swear by my name, saying, ‘As surely as the Lord lives’—even as they once taught my people to swear by Baal—then they will be established among my people. 17 But if any nation does not listen, I will completely uproot and destroy it,” declares the Lord.
